2, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shorewomen won their fifth consecutive game this afternoon, topping visiting Gettysburg, 3-0, in Centennial Conference action. The win, coupled with a loss by either Swarthmore or Muhlenberg today, would clinch a Centennial Conference playoff berth for the Shorewomen (9-6, 6-1 Centennial Conference). Sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) scored the game's first goal with 10:58 to play when she collected a long hit, raced toward the goal and went around the keeper to score. Senior back Megan Daily (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) gave WC a 2-0 lead when she knocked in a loose ball with 6:10 left in the period. The Shorewomen added an insurance goal with 7:54 to play in the second when freshman midfielder Bonnie Loder (West Chester, PA/West Chester) scored. Junior goalkeeper Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) recorded her third shutout of the year, making six saves in the win. Gettysburg goalkeeper Quinn Dougherty made 14 stops. The Shorewomen held a 21-7 advantage in shots and a 13-10 edge in penalty corners. Washington is back in action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. game at Swarthmore. A win tomorrow and a win Tuesday at McDaniel would give the Shorewomen hosting rights for the Centennial Conference Playoffs. Box Score
