19, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) knocked in the game-winning goal with just 55 seconds to play to lead the Washington College Shorewomen to a 1-0 victory over visiting Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference field hockey action this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen (5-6, 2-1 Centennial Conference), got off 25 shots in the game but could not manage to get on the scoreboard until Scimeca knocked in a goal off an assist from junior forward Erin Thomas (Newport News, VA/Denbigh) for the dramatic finish. WC also held a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners, but a nine-save effort by F&M goalie Jennifer Lindner helped the Diplomats (6-6, 2-2) stay in the game. Washington junior goalkeeper Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) posted her first career shutout in the win, making seven saves. The Shorewomen have not allowed an F&M goal for the last 254:33 over the past four meetings between the two squads.
