3, 2002 BALTIMORE, MD -- In last year's meeting between the Washington College and College of Notre Dame (MD) field hockey teams, the Shorewomen outshot CND, 39-9, but lost the game, 2-1. In today's battle, WC once again dominated in shots, but this time jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 5-1 victory over the host Gators. Sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) opened the scoring for the Shorewomen (1-1) with an unassisted goal with 17:27 to go in the first half. She followed that up with another goal with 12:54 left in the period off an assist from senior midfielder Jessica McAdams (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr). The Shorewomen pushed the lead to 3-0 with 9:04 left in the half when junior forward Taneil Sisco (Kent County, MD/Kent County) scored. Freshman midfielder Bonnie Loder (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) picked up her first collegiate assist on the play. The Gators (0-3) got on the board with 27:10 left in the second half when Caryn Swierzbin scored. The Shorewomen answered 35 seconds later when Scimeca found senior forward Julie Phillips (Easton, MD/Easton) for WC's fourth goal of the day. McAdams rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 5:00 to play. WC held a 32-9 advantage in shots in the game, including a 14-1 advantage in the first half. The Shorewomen also held a 10-4 edge in penalty corners. The Shorewomen return to action September 11th with a 7:00 p.m. game against Villa Julie at UMBC. Box Score
