31, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) broke school records for goals and points in a season as the Washington College Shorewomen posted an 8-1 Centennial Conference win over Bryn Mawr this afternoon. It was the fourth straight win for the Shorewomen, who improved to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Owls slipped to 0-16 and 0-8. The first of Scimeca's two goals on the day came with 20:16 to play in the first half. The goal was her 15th of the season, breaking the school record set by Nicole Maccari in 1999, and boosted her season point total to 36, breaking the school mark of 35 set by Christyl Arrabal in 1997 and matched by Arrabal in 1999. Scimeca scored again 64 seconds later to up her totals to 16 goals and 38 points this season. Scimeca's goals were two of the six scored by the Shorewomen in the first half. Senior midfielder Julie Phillips (Easton, MD/Easton) also scored twice in the period, while junior forward Taneil Sisco (Kent County, MD/Kent County) and senior midfielder Jessica McAdams (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) each scored once. McAdams also had two assists in the period. In the second half, two Shorewomen scored their first collegiate goals. Junior forward Kate Drury (Milford, DE/St. Timothy's, MD) scored off an assist from sophomore forward Traci Sodano (Clinton, NJ/North Hunterdon) with 31:44 to play and freshman midfielder/forward Ashley Leithren (Elkton, MD/Bohemia Manor) knocked in an unassisted goal with 21:24 on the clock. The Owls got on the board with 13:10 to play when Liz Nguyen scored off a pass from Megan Williams. The Shorewomen outshot the Owls 30-0 in the first half and 37-6 in the game. Bryn Mawr held a 9-5 edge in penalty corners. Bryn Mawr goalie Cara Pasquale made 21 saves. The eight goals scored by WC were the most in one game for the Shorewomen since a 9-1 win over Bridgewater on September 11, 1999. The Shorewomen are back in action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against conference foe Gettysburg. Box Score
