6, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 non-conference game this afternoon to Salisbury University, the top-ranked team in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll. The Shorewomen fell to 8-4 with the loss, while the Sea Gulls improved to 11-1. Despite being outshot 14-2 in the first half, Washington managed to keep Salisbury off the scoreboard for nearly 33 minutes thanks, in part, to clutch defensive saves by junior backs Megan Daily (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills). The Sea Gulls got on the board with 2:13 left in the opening frame when senior forward Kristen Seaton (Pittsville, MD/Parkside) scored off a pass from senior midfielder Tara Webster (Deal Island, MD/Washington). The Sea Gulls added their second goal less then five minutes into the second half when senior forward Marie Brewington (Salisbury, MD/James M. Bennett) knocked in an unassisted marker with 30:56 to play. Webster and sophomore forward Lindsey Elliott (Delmar, DE/Delmar) would each later add an insurance goal. Brewington picked up an assist on each of those late goals. Washington junior goalkeeper Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton Area) picked up 11 saves against a Salisbury offense that held commanding advantages in shots inside the circle, 25-5, and penalty corners, 18-4. The Shorewomen return to Centennial Conference action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Johns Hopkins. Washington will be looking to extend its team-record 6-0 start in league play. Box Score
