Shorewomen Fall to No. 2 Rowan
WC Gives Profs Toughest Test of 2001

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Despite giving No. 2 ranked Rowan University its toughest test of the season, the Washington College field hockey team came up on the short end of a 1-0 final score this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen, who held Rowan to a season-low scoring total, fell to 6-3 with the loss.

Washington junior goalkeeper Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton) made 10 first-half saves to keep the game scorless through the first half. Just 45 seconds into the second half, however, Rowan sophomore forward Beth Raleigh (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) knocked in a loose ball to record the contest's lone goal. The Shorewomen last had possession of the ball on their side of the field with 40 seconds left on the clock, but could not get a shot off.

Allebach played a solid game in the cage for Washington, finishing with 15 total saves against a Prof squad that came into today averaging four goals per game. The only other team to hold unbeaten Rowan (7-0) to under four goals this season was Cabrini - the Cavaliers dropped a 2-0 decision to the Profs on September 13.

Rowan, which trails No. 1 Salisbury by just 16 points in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll, controlled possession for much of the game and held a 20-7 edge in shots and a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Washington returns to Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Bryn Mawr.
