Shorewomen Win in Dramatic Fashion
McAdams Leads Rally Past Roanoke

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior midfielder Jessica McAdams (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) scored an unassisted goal just 25 seconds into overtime to lift the Washington College field hockey team to a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind victory over visiting Roanoke College this afternoon. It was the second overtime game-winner of the season for McAdams, who had a hand in all three of the Shorewomen's goals in the win.

The Shorewomen (12-4) outshot the Maroons (8-4), 17-5, in the first half, but trailed 2-0 at the break. Roanoke scored less than five minutes into the game when senior forward Sirena LaBrake (Clifton, VA/Centreville) knocked in a goal off a pass from sophomore forward Sara Lundgren (Londonberry, NH/Londonberry). Lundgren scored a goal of her own with 2:00 left in the first half off an assist by junior midfielder/defender Allary Bratsch (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) to give the Maroons their halftime lead.

Roanoke maintained that lead for more than two-thirds of the second half before McAdams found freshman midfielder/forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) for a goal that finally put the Shorewomen on the board. Washington failed to tie the score on several possessions over the ensuing minutes and the Maroons seemed to have the game in hand with the ball on their end of the field and under one minute to play in regulation.

That's when the Shorewomen gained possession, McAdams received a pass across midfield and headed towards the Roanoke cage. Driven to her right by a defender and nearing the end of the field, McAdams dumped the ball off to sophomore forward Erin Thomas (Newport News, VA/Denbigh), who was positioned near the goal. Thomas fired off a shot that zipped past Roanoke senior goalkeeper Jodi Godbout (Columbia, MD/Centennial) and found the back of the cage with just 22 seconds left in regulation. It was the first goal of the season for Thomas.

McAdams made quick work of the overtime period, burying the game-winner into the Maroon goal off a shot from near the top of the circle with 14:35 on the clock. On September 22, McAdams scored an unassisted goal just 1:16 into overtime to give Washington a 1-0 win at Muhlenberg.

For the game, Washington held 28-8 and 11-4 advantages in shots and penalty corners, respectively, to avenge a 2-0 loss at Roanoke last season. Godbout, who made eight saves in the first half to hold the Shorewomen at bay, finished with 11 for the game.

After playing their third game in four days, the Shorewomen are off until Saturday, when they travel to Gettysburg for a 1:00 p.m. game. A win against the Bullets would secure Centennial Conference playoff hosting rights for Washington.
