13, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- In a game played in a reunion-like atmosphere, the Washington College Shorewomen recorded their second straight shutout this afternoon, a 4-0 win over visiting Randolph-Macon. Before the game, Washington (11-4) took time to recognize the head coach, Sarah Sobon, and assistant coach, Toby Wilmet, of Randolph-Macon (4-11), both former All-American players for the Shorewomen. As for the game itself, Washington controlled play from the opening whistle, outshooting the Yellow Jackets, 21-4, and holding a commanding 21-2 advantage in penalty corners. Three Shorewomen scored their first goals of the season in the win, highlighted by the first collegiate goal off the stick of senior back Jamie Thompson (Wilmington, DE/Concord), who opened the scoring with 18:28 to play in the first half. Junior midfielder Julie Phillips (Easton, MD/Easton), picked up an assist on Thompson's goal. The Shorewomen increased their lead with 8:43 left in the first when sophomore forward Erin Thomas (Newport News, VA/Denbigh) fed freshman midfielder/forward Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) a pass across the circle that Scimeca knocked in the cage. In the second half, sophomore back Missy Tine (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) picked up her first goal of the 2001 season off an assist from senior forward Avery Coleman (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) with 33:17 to play. Senior forward Lee Coulson (Salisbury, MD/James M. Bennett) rounded out the scoring with her first goal of the year with 20:28 on the clock. Phillips picked up her second assist in the game off Coulson's goal. Washington junior goalkeeper Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton) and sophomore Zina Hense (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) combined to make three saves in the shutout. Before the game, Dr. John Toll, Washington College's president, Director of Athletics Bryan Matthews, and WC head coach Sarah Feyerherm, for whom both Sobon and Wilmet played for, took time to recognize the pair's achievements. Toby Wilmet was presented with her 2001 NCAA Maryland Woman of the Year plaque. Wilmet, whose sister Rachel Wilmet serves as an assistant for Feyerherm, is also one of ten finalists for the national Woman of the Year Award. The Shorewomen will have very little time to savor their third win in a row; Washington hosts Roanoke College in a 1:00 p.m. game tomorrow. Box Score
