31, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Despite holding Mary Washington College scoreless over the final 44:54, the host Washington College field hockey team wound up on the back end of a 3-0 score in today's season opener for both squads. The Shorewomen will now look for their first win of 2001 in Sunday's 1:00 p.m. home game against Frostburg State. Mary Washington sophomore forward Adrienne Trombley (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored what would prove to be the game-winner with 18:37 to play in the first half off a feed from sophomore midfielder Sarah Sebring (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester). Seven minutes later, freshman forward Emily Falvey (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) found junior midfielder Shelley Sabo (Midlothian, VA/Monacan) on a cross-goal pass for the Eagles' second goal. Senior forward Jessica Morris (Hampton, VA/Kecoughtan) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted marker at the 9:54 mark. The Shorewomen tried to mount a rally in the second half, getting off seven of their eight shots in the final 35 minutes, but could not find the back of the cage. Washington junior goalkeeper Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton) wound up with 10 saves on the day. Washington's Sunday date with Frostburg State is part of a three-day, three-team round robin event. Mary Washington takes on Frostburg tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in a neutral site contest in Chestertown.
