Phillips's 3rd Goal Wins Game in OT
Shorewomen Improve to 3-2

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior midfielder Julie Phillips (Easton, MD/Easton) scored her third goal of the game with 3:54 remaining in overtime to lift the Washington College field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over visiting Juniata College this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen improved to 3-2 with the win, while the Eagles dropped to 0-4.

Phillips's first goal came with 23:47 to play in the first half off an assist from junior midfielder Jessica McAdams (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr). Phillips then gave the Shorewomen a 2-0 halftime lead when she fired in a goal from 14 yards out with 5:08 to play before the break.

The Eagles battled back in the second half, however, and scored their first goal of the 2001 season at the 34:13 mark when freshman midfielder/back Billie Rickenbaugh (McAlisterville, PA/East Juniata) scored on a pass from sophomore midfielder Jean Silvey (Airville, PA/Red Lion) with 34:13 left in regulation.

Juniata had a chance to tie the score with 12:06 to play, but junior back/midfielder Jess Hebbel (Grantville, PA/Northern Lebanon) lifted a penalty stroke wide of the cage. With 4:25 on the clock, the Eagles finally did draw even when senior midfielder/forward Kim Kelly (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) scored an unassisted goal.

The teams battled back and forth in overtime until Phillips scored her goal off a penalty corner pass from junior back Megan Daily (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern). Daily also made two defensive saves in the game.

Each team's goalkeeper had a solid day in the cage. Washington junior Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton Area) made 12 saves, while Juniata freshman Melonie Sappe' (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) made 15.

The Shorewomen held a 27-21 edge in shots inside the circle and a 14-9 edge in penalty corners, while avenging a 1-0 loss to the Eagles last season. Prior to that, Washington had taken three straight games from Juniata.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 5:00 p.m. game versus Villa Julie at UMBC.
