18, 2007 NASSAU, BAHAMAS Washington & Jefferson shot 57% from the field en route to an 80-53 non-conference women's basketball victory over Washington College this afternoon at the Isaacs National Gymnasium in the first game of the Sunshine Shootout in Nassau, Bahamas. The Presidents, who got 23 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists from Maggie Gibson, improved to 7-2 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-4 with the loss. Gibson shot 11-of-12 from the field, while Emily Hays was 8-of-9 from the floor en route to 16 points of her own for W&J. As a team, the Presidents were 37-of-65 from the field in the game, including 33-of-54 from two-point range. Maria Hillenbrand added eight points, while Stephanie Smith dished out five assists to go along with five points. Twelve different players scored for W&J as the Presidents scored 54 points in the paint. Washington & Jefferson also controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Shorewomen, 51-31. Sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) led Washington with 14 points, while sophomore guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) added nine. Senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) contributed eight points and four assists, while junior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/Pius X) brought down a team-best eight rebounds and swiped a game-high three steals. Senior forward Brenda Lucas (New Londn, PA/Avon Grove) added six points in the loss. Washington did win the turnover battle, committing 13 to the Presidents' 17. The Shorewomen will play Bates Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in the Sunshine Shootout. |
