27, 2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD Laura Krieger's three-point basket with 1:01 left put Ursinus on top, as the Bears scored the final seven points of the contest to rally past Washington College, 56-51, on Tuesday evening at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial Conference women's basketball action. It was the conference opener for both teams. With the Shorewomen leading 51-49, Krieger received a pass from Carolyn Konstanzer and buried the trifecta from the left corner to put Ursinus (1-2, 1-0 CC) up 52-51. The Bears iced the win with four free throws from Jaclyn Hilf. After Ursinus took an 8-1 lead 4:10 into the game, Washington (2-1, 0-1 CC) went on a 22-5 run to take a 23-13 lead with 5:28 left in the opening half. Leading the charge was sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) who scored the first 10 points of the run and netted 12 of the 22 Washington points during the spurt. The Shorewomen took a 28-22 lead into halftime on a layup by junior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) with two seconds left. Washington led 36-27 with 17:13 remaining in the game before Ursinus went on a 19-4 run to take a 45-40 lead on a Konstanzer free throw with 5:22 remaining. The Shorewomen answered with an 11-4 run to take a 51-49 lead on a pair of free throws by O'Donnell. The Shorewomen would hold the lead until Krieger's three-pointer. Konstanzer had a double-double with a team-high 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Krieger added 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting, while Alex Shivers had a game-high 13 rebounds. For Washington, O'Donnell led all players with 25 points. Senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), sophomore guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) and sophomore forward Julie Sherwood (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) all had seven rebounds to lead the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen shot 25% from the floor and committed 23 turnovers, while the Bears shot 32% and turned the ball over 20 times. Washington edged Ursinus in rebounds by a margin of 46-45. The Shorewomen conclude their two game homestand on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Centennial Conference foe Dickinson. |
