2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD Ali Moreland scored a game-high 18 points to lead visiting McDaniel College past host Washington College, 76-54, on Thursday evening in Centennial Conference women's basketball action at the Cain Athletic Center. The Green Terror improved to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 5-8 and 2-4 with the loss. McDaniel opened the game shooting 15-for-19 from the floor and went on to shoot 66% from the field in the first half to take a 43-21 lead at halftime. The Green Terror used an 11-0 run to grab a 15-2 lead with 14:44 left in the first half. McDaniel took its biggest lead of the half at 33-9 with 7:42 remaining in the opening half. The Green Terror led 59-35 with 11:35 to go in the game before the Shorewomen went on a 17-7 run to trim the deficit to 66-52 with 6:08 left on a fast-break layup by senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), but that was as close as Washington would get. McDaniel got a double-double from Ashley Lyles who netted 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and blocked a game-best three shots. Kim Staub also scored 13 points in the victory. Robbin Gregg dished a career-high eight assists for the Green Terror. For the Shorewomen, sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) led the way with 14 points, while Conway added 12. For the game, the Green Terror had a 50% field goal shooting percentage, while Washington shot just 34% from the field. McDaniel outscored the Shorewomen, 32-18, in the paint. The Green Terror also held a commanding 45-22 advantage on the boards. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference contest at Dickinson. |
