2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD Kristin Phillips tallied a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 18 rebounds as visiting Johns Hopkins rallied from a 42-28 halftime deficit to beat host Washington College, 69-60, on Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference women's basketball action. The Blue Jays improve to 8-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play, while the Shorewomen fall to 7-11 and 4-7 respectively. With Washington leading 50-39 with 13:55 left, Johns Hopkins closed out the game on a 30-10 run to record the win. The Blue Jays tied the score at 52-52 with 5:56 left on a fast-break layup by Lyndsey Burton, who scored all of her 13 points in the second half. Following a Shorewomen miss, Johns Hopkins took the lead for good on a jumper by Burton with 4:44 remaining. Burton canned a jumper just before the shot clock expired to give the guests a 62-54 lead with 51 seconds remaining. The Blue Jays went 7-for-10 from the free throw line in the final 33 seconds to ice the win. In the opening half, Washington jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first 6:53 of the game. Sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) netted 10 points in the spurt. The Shorewomen would build their lead up to 15 on two occasions, the second one being at 28-13 with 8:52 remaining in the first stanza. The Blue Jays would go on a 15-4 run to trim the Shorewomen lead to 32-28 with 3:10 left on a free throw by Phillips. Washington would close out the first half scoring the final 10 points, capped by layup from sophomore guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) with one second left in the half. For Johns Hopkins, Andrea Dodrill scored 11 points and grabbed a game-best nine rebounds. Steph Kielb dished out a team-high four assists and Caitlin Sloane recorded a game-high four steals for the Blue Jays. For Washington, O'Donnell netted 24 of her game-high 27 points in the first half. She drained seven three-pointers, one short of her career-high. senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and dished out a game-best six assists. Junior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/Pius X) had three steals to lead the Shorewomen. Johns Hopkins shot 46% from the field to Washington's 41%. The Blue Jays outrebounded the Shorewomen by a 36-27 margin and committed seven fewer turonvers, 26-19. The Blue Jays outscored the Shorewomen on points in the paint, 40-22, and points off of turnovers, 32-18. Johns Hopkins netted 21 second-chance points to just 10 for Washington. The Shorewomen are back in action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game against visiting Gettysburg. |
