4, 2007 HAVERFORD, PA Sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) scored 19 of her game-high 22 points in the first half as Washington College downed host Haverford College, 67-49, Tuesday evening in Centennial Conference women's basketball action at the Douglas B. Gardner Integrated Athletic Center. The Shorewomen improve to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial, while the Fords drop to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Shorewomen jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the opening 7:32 of the contest as O'Donnell scored eight points to spur the early lead. The Fords scored the next seven points to cut it to 15-14 with 9:01 left in the opening half on a bucket by Sara Cram. Washington would answer with a 10-1 run to take a 25-15 lead with 4:53 left in the first on a three-point goal by O'Donnell. After Haverford cut it to 29-23 on back-to-back triples, the Shorewomen scored four of the final six points to take a 33-25 lead at halftime. Washington opened up the second half by scoring the first nine points in the first 3:04 to take a 42-25 lead. Junior guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) scored five of the nine points during the spurt. The visitors would extend their lead to 52-30 on a jumper by sophomore guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) with 11:51 remaining. The Fords would close it to 14 points on two occasions, but would draw no closer. Slizofski had season-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds, recording her third career double-double. Two of her three double-doubles have come against the Fords. Senior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) tallied game-bests of seven steals and three blocks. O'Donnell converted on six three-point field goals in the game, shooting 5-of-8 from long range in the first half. Cram led Haverford with 15 points, nine rebounds and a game-high five assists. The Shorewomen shot 36% in the game, while holding the Fords to 26% from the floor. Haverford out-rebounded Washington, 46-42, but committed 25 turnovers to just 19 for Washington. Tonight marked the first victory
for Washington at Haverford since a 65-54 triumph on February 8, 2005. The Shorewomen
now lead the all-time series against the Fords, 21-8. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Bryn Mawr. |
