2, 2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD Sophomore guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) scored a career-high 19 points and brought down a career-best 11 rebounds and host Washington College held visiting Gettysburg College to 19% shooting from the field in the second half of a 66-58 Centennial Conference women's basketball win for the Shorewomen this afternoon in Cain Athletic Center. The lead changed 10 times in the first half, but a three-pointer by Allie Drechsler with seven seconds left in the period gave the Bullets (12-7, 8-4 Centennial) a 39-35 advantage at half time. After the Shorewomen (8-11, 5-7) scored the first five points of the second half to take a 41-39 lead on a lay-up and free throw by freshman forward Jessycka Wilson (Severna Park, MD/Severn School) with 15:02 remaining, neither team would lead by more than three points until the final half-minute of the contest. Gettysburg's final lead in the game came when Drechsler made a lay-up with 4:57 to play to give the Bullets a 53-52 advantage. Sophomore guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) answered for Washington with a three-pointer on the Shorewomen's next possession to put WC in front, 55-53, with 4:28 left. Gettysburg managed to tie the score two more times, with the 10th and final tied score of the game coming on a lay-up by Caitlin Moser with 2:07 to go. Neither team would score again until Jamrogowicz found Conway cutting to the basket for a lay-up that provided the 17th lead change of the game and gave the Shorewomen the lead for good at 59-57 with 1:25 remaining. The Bullets missed three shots on their next possession and Conway found WC senior forward Brenda Lucas (New London, PA/Avon Grove) for a lay-up with 28 seconds left to make it a two-possession game at 61-57. Courtney Fields missed a three-pointer on the other end for Gettysburg and Jamrogowicz got the rebound and was fouled. Jamrogowicz made both free throws to stretch the lead to 63-57 with 15 seconds left. Megan Hartman cut the lead to five points by making one-of-two free throws with 10 seconds left, but O'Donnell hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining to provide the final margin. Washington clamped down defensively in the final 20 minutes as Gettysburg scored just 19 second-half points on 5-of-27 shooting from the floor and 7-of-10 shooting at the line after shooting 44% from the field in the first half on the way to 39 points. Jamrogowicz's 19 points led all scorers as she was 6-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line and made both of her three-point attempts. She also tallied three steals and two blocks. Lucas tied her career high of 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, while O'Donnell finished with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Conway dished out a game-high nine assists to go along with eight rebounds, six points and two blocks. Drechsler led Gettysburg with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Fields added 16 points. Moser scored 14 points and matched Jamrogowicz's game-high 11 rebounds, while also swiping four steals. For the game, Washington shot 41% from the field, while Gettysburg shot 33%. The Shorewomen also held a 47-38 advantage on the boards. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford. |
