29, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD Ursinus College got 15 points and 15 rebounds from senior center Molly Guntli as the Bears downed Washington College, 74-60, on Wednesday night in the Centennial Conference opener for Washington College. The win spoiled a career-best night in assists for junior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), who dished out 10 for the Shorewomen. The Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never gave up the lead. The Bears built up the lead to 14 points on two occasions in the first half. Down 29-15, the Shorewomen closed out the first half on a 10-5 run cut the deficit to 34-25 at intermission. In the second half, the closest the Shorewomen would come to the Bears was eight points. Senior forward Mary Kate Daley led all players with 20 points and had a team-high four assists for Ursinus, who improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. She also had eight rebounds in the contest. Freshman forward Julie Bown came off the bench to net 16 points for Ursinus, while freshman center Carolyn Konstanzer tallied 13 points for the Bears. Washington College (2-2, 0-1 CC) senior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) contributed team bests in points with 15 and rebounds with eight. She also had a game-high three steals for the Shorewomen. Sophomore guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) netted 13 points and sophomore guard Christie Rogers (Davidsonville, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) scored a career-high 12 points on four three-point field goals. The Shorewomen shot 36% from the floor and committed 13 turnovers, while the Bears shot 48% and turned the ball over 17 times. Ursinus controlled the rebounding action by a margin of 47-28. The Shorewomen conclude their three game homestand on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Centennial Conference foe Dickinson. |
