Shorewomen Conquer Mountaineers, 76-50
Joseph Scores Career-Best 12 Points

BENNINGTON, VT – Visiting Washington College pulled away from host Southern Vermont College en route to a 76-50 women's basketball win this afternoon in Bennington, VT. The Shorewomen (4-6) got a career-high 12 points in 11 minutes off the bench from freshman center Melissa Joseph (Selden, NY/Newfield) in the win, while Shenika Dow supplied the Mountaineers (0-9) with a game-high 23 points.

The Mountaineers took an early 6-2 lead in the game, but the Shorewomen then went on an 11-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer from freshman guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) with 12:08 left in the period, to take the lead for good. Southern Vermont kept the game close, however, until the Shorewomen finished the period on a 14-4 run to take a 36-22 lead at halftime.

Washington continued to extend the lead in the second half and built a margin of as many as 29 points in the second half.

Joseph was one of three Shorewomen to reach double figures in scoring as she went 6-of-8 from the floor. Senior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored 12 points of her own to go along with a career-high tying five assists and four steals. Junior forward Brenda Lucas (New London, PA/Avon Grove) tossed in 10 points, while junior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) finished with nine points, a game-high 12 rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Dow grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Mountaineers to go along with her 23 points. Dow, Jaleesa Marshall (18 points, five steals), and Krystle White (nine points), accounted for all of Southern Vermont's scoring and took all but three of the Mountaineers' 55 shots in the game.

Washington shot 48% from the floor in the win, while Southern Vermont shot 40%. The Shorewomen also won the rebounding (42-29) and turnover (18-26) battles.

The Shorewomen are off until January 4th when they will play at Wilson in a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game.
