2007 GETTYSBURG, PA Courtney Fields tallied a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 steals to lead Gettysburg past visiting Washington College, 70-57, on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference women’s basketball action at Bream Gymnasium. The Bullets (13-8, 10-4 Centennial) led 14-12 with 11:05 to go in the opening half before going on a 12-6 run to take a 26-18 lead with 6:21 remaining in the first. The run was capped off by a fast-break lay-up by Allie Dreschler. The Shorewomen (10-11, 4-10) scored five of the next seven points to cut it to 28-23 with 3:53 to go. Gettysburg scored the final nine points of the half, capped off by a Dreschler steal and lay-up just before the buzzer. In the second half, Washington College cut the lead to nine points on a jumper by senior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) that made it 44-35 with 15:35 to play, but could get no closer. The Bullets led by as many as 17 points in the second half. Dreschler led all scorers with 18 points and was one of four Gettysburg players’ to net double-figure point totals. Megan Hartman added 12 points and Katie Reilly added 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) led the Shorewomen with 14 points. She and junior guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) each had eight boards to tie for the team high. Turner had 13 points and seven rebounds. Gettysburg outscored Washington College in the paint by a margin of 46-14 and chalked up 15 steals. The Bullets committed just 11 turnovers to the Shorewomen’s 22. Washington College returns to action on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. as the Shorewomen host Haverford in Centennial Conference action. |
