10 , 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD Sophomore guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) recorded her first double-double of this season, scoring a team-high 14 points and collecting a game-high 12 rebounds, as host Washington College defeated Trinity (DC), 63-50, in a non-conference women's basketball game this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Shorewomen improved to 4-9 with the win, while the Tigers slipped to 0-7 with the loss. Washington's defense came ready to play, holding Trinity to just 27% shooting in the first half and 30% for the game. The Shorewomen held a 31-16 lead at halftime and would never look back en route to the 13 point victory. The Shorewomen also held a 55-38 advantage in rebounding (including 28 offensive) and forced 17 turnovers to their 22. Freshmen forwards Kaitlyn Roth (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) each finished one rebound shy of collecting their first career double-doubles. Roth tied a career-high with 10 points and added a career-high nine rebounds, while Slizofski added 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Junior forward Lauren Duckworth (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) added seven points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) recorded eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Lauren Hall led Trinity with a game-high 19 points, while Joely Jones and Lauren McClain each added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers. The Shorewomen return to action on Thursday when they travel to Centennial Conference foe Franklin & Marshall for a 6:00 tilt. |
