14, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD Visiting Swarthmore held host Washington College scoreless for a span of 7:23 in the second half en route to a 62-51 Centennial Conference women's basketball win this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Garnet, who got game highs of 28 points and 13 rebounds from Karen Berk, improved to 10-13 overall and 6-11 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 5-19 and 2-15 with the loss. Washington held a 28-26 lead at halftime and a 41-39 with 13:35 to go in the second half, but did not score again until 6:13 remained in the period. That drought came during a 20-6 Swarthmore run which gave the Garnet control of the game. Berk shot 11-of-17 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free throw line en route to her 28 points. Melissa Grigsby added 11 points for Swarthmore, while Debra Farrelly finish with team highs of seven assists and three steals. Junior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) led Washington with 14 points, while freshman forward Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) added 12. Sophomore guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) dished out a game-high eight assists, swiped a game-high four steals, grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots, and scored five points. The Shorewomen close out their season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel. |
