Eagles Fly Over Shorewomen, 74-57
Turner Ties Career High with 21 Points in Loss

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Washington College women's basketball team fell to the University of the Ozarks, 74-57, Saturday afternoon at the Tyson Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. Junior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) tied her career high with 21 points for the Shorewomen in the losing effort.

The Shorewomen (0-2) came out of the gates hot, leading the Eagles 14-4 after the first four minutes of play, but Ozarks (1-1) adjusted to the WC style of play, and fought its way back to take a 32-29 advantage at the half.

The Eagles carried their momentum from the first half into the second half, and outscored the Shorewomen, 42-28, in that period en route to the 74-57 victory.

Turner's 21 points tied her career high which came against Centenary on November 20, 2004. She was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance in today's game. Sophomore guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) had ten points, eight rebounds, and a team-high five steals, while sophomore guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) contributed seven points and six rebounds in the losing effort.

The Shorewomen committed 28 turnovers in the game and shot 35% from the field, compared to the Eagles who shot 38% from the field and committed only 17 turnovers. Washington was also out-rebounded by a margin of 54-46.

LaTisha McAlester had a game-high 23 points and six steals for the Eagles in the victory.

The Shorewomen return to action Monday night for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off at non-conference opponent Immaculata.
