18, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD McDaniel College held host Washington College to 17 points in the first half en route to a 71-45 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Green Terror improved to 12-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen dropped to 4-12 and 1-8 with the loss. Sara Franz led McDaniel with a game-high 19 points, highlighted by a perfect 10-for-10 performance from the free throw line. Franz also added three steals, three assists and two blocks. Katy Powell added 12 points, while Theresa Hess finished with eight points and eight rebounds for the Green Terror. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Roth (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored a team-high 10 points and collected four rebounds for the Shorewomen. Sophomore guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) and junior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) each added nine points, while sophomore forward Brenda Lucas (New London, PA/Avon Grove) grabbed a game-high ten rebounds and recorded six points and three steals for Washington in the loss. The Green Terror shot 43% from the field in the game, while holding Washington to 31% shooting. McDaniel out-rebounded Washington by a 43-39 margin. The Shorewomen turned the ball over 22 times while the Green Terror committed 16 turnovers in the game. Washington shot 8-of-14 from the free throw line, while McDaniel shot 22-for-28 from the charity stripe in the game. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference away game against Muhlenberg. |
