Conway Scores Career-High 22 in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Visiting Gettysburg College went 12-for-14 from the free throw line over the last 3:49 to hold off host Washington College 81-79 in Centennial Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The Bullets improved to 13-8 overall and 10-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 5-16 and 2-12 with the loss.

The Shorewomen started the game hot, shooting 48% from the floor in the first half and taking a 38-35 lead at the break. However, Gettysburg came right back early in the second half, going on a 10-3 run over the first 3:17 of the half.

The Bullets held a 69-62 lead, their largest of the game, with 2:49 remaining. After the teams exhanged free throws, junior guard Regina Barrett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Mamaroneck) hit a three-point basket with 1:34 to cut the Gettysburg lead to 71-67. The Bullets Kathryn Reilly hit a layup with 1:10 remaining, but sophomore guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) was fouled on the Shorewomen's next possession, and hit both of her free throw attempts with 58 seconds remaining. Megan Hartman proceeded to hit two more free throws for the Bullets with 56 seconds left, giving them a 77-72 advantage. Sophomore guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) was fouled while attempting a three-pointer with 49 seconds remaining. Pastorino hit all three free throws, cutting the Gettysburg lead to 75-72. Hartman was fouled again with 46 seconds left, and hit two more free throws before Barrett hit a jump shot to make the game 77-74. Jamie Marshall hit two more free throws for the Bullets before Pastorino hit her fourth three-point basket of the game with 21 seconds left to make the score 79-77. Marshall was fouled again and hit two more free throws before Kaitlyn Roth (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) hit a layup with :09 remaining to make the score 81-79. After a Washington timeout, Marshall was again fouled by the Shorewomen, but missed both free throw attempts. Washington had the ball back at half court with 3.1 seconds left, but could not find an open look, as a long three-point attempt by freshman guard Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Hts., NJ/St. Mary's) could not find its way into the basket.

Jennifer Bengel led Gettysburg with a game-high 24points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Marshall added 15 points, while Kathryn Reilly finished with 12 for the Bullets.

Conway scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor for the game. She also tied a career-high with nine assists along with six rebounds and two steals for the Shorewomen. Pastorino added a season-high 19 points while Barrett along with junior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) each added 13 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss.

The Shorewomen outrebounded the Bullets by a margin of 39-33.

Washington returns to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Haverford.
