| January 4, 2006 GETTYSBURG, PA The Washington College women's basketball team held Carnegie Mellon to 19% shooting from the field and finished the game on a 14-3 run in a 45-32 victory over the Tartans at the Gettysburg Days Inn Classic. The Shorewomen improved to 3-8 with the win, while the Tartans fell to 4-7 with the loss. Washington held a 31-29 lead with 7:38 left in the game before putting the clamps on Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans shot just 1-of-8 from the field and committed six turnovers the rest of the way. The Shorewomen shot 32% from the field, but held Carnegie Mellon to 11-of-57 shooting in the game, including 4-for-31 shooting in the second half. Freshman forward Kaitlyn Roth (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) led all scorers by tallying a career-high 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting for the Shorewomen. Freshman forward Brianne Slizofski (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) added seven points and a career-best eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) equaled her career high by grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with six points and two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) recorded game-highs of six assists and five steals, grabbed eight boards, and scored four points. Freshman guard Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Hts., NJ/St. Mary's) went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final minute of the game to ice the win for Washington. Rachelle Roll led the Tartans with nine points and eight rebounds. Carnegie Mellon's 32 points represented the fewest points Washington has allowed in a game since a 75-27 on December 14th, 2002. The Shorewomen will return to Gettysburg Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game against the Bullets. |
