28, 2006 BRYN MAWR, PA Visiting Washington College never trailed and held off host Bryn Mawr College in the final minutes to post a 60-54 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory this afternoon in Bryn Mawr, PA. The Shorewomen, who had four players reach double figures in scoring, improved to 5-15 overall and 2-11 in conference play with the win. The Owls slipped to 2-17 and 0-13 with the loss. The Shorewomen led by as many as 11 points in the first half before the Owls finished the period with six straight points to trim the lead to 34-29 at the break. Bryn Mawr cut the lead to two points four times in the second half, but could not tie the score. Washington held a 56-52 lead with four minutes to play and held Bryn Mawr to two points on 1-for-5 shooting and forced a pair of turnovers down the stretch. Sophomore guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) finished with a team-high 13 points for the Shorewomen. Junior guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) and freshman forward Kaitlyn Roth (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) each added 12 points. Roth's 12 points were a career high. Sophomore forward Brenda Lucas (New London, PA/Avon Grove) tallied 11 points, a game-high 11 rebounds (matching her career high), a career-best four assists, and three steals. Sophomore guard Elise Conway (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) dished out a game-best five assists and swiped a game-high five steals for Washington. Amy Johnson scored a game-high 18 points for Bryn Mawr, brought down seven rebounds, and swiped four steals. Jessica Allen added 12 points, a team-high eight boards, and a game-high assists. Katie Driscoll also finished with 12 points for the Owls. The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Gettysburg. |
