Widener Downs WAC, 77-55
Turner Leads Shorewomen with 16 Points

GETTYSBURG, PA – Widener University opened the game on a 13-0 run en route to a 77-55 women's basketball victory over Washington College this evening at the Gettysburg Days Inn Classic. The Pioneers improved to 6-5 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 2-8 with the loss.

Celeste Baumgardner led all scorers with 17 points for the Pioneers. Chelsea Lutha added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Linette Babiarz turned in a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Nicole Stanley added 14 points and a game-high seven assists for Widener.

Sophomore guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) led the Shorewomen with 16 points, while sophomore forward Lauren Duckworth (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) added 13 points. Freshman forward Brenda Lucas (New London, PA/Avon Grove) scored a career-high 12 points for Washington. Senior guard Jeremy Cook (Pattenburg, NJ/North Hunterdon) posted team-high totals of eight rebounds and four assists to go along with her nine points.

The Pioneers, who held a 50-24 lead at the half, outrebounded Washington, 52-36, in the game.

The Shorewomen will face Albright College at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Gettysburg Days Inn Classic.
