February 16, 2005 SWARTHMORE, PA Host Swarthmore College improved to 14-9 overall and 10-6 in the Centennial Conference with a 63-43 win over visiting Washington College in women's basketball action this evening in Swarthmore, PA. The Shorewomen slipped to 5-18 and 3-13 with the loss. The Garnet Tide shot 15-of-27 from the field in the first half to jump out to a 38-18 lead at the break. Swarthmore shot 43% from the field in the game to Washington's 33% and outrebounded the Shorewomen, 36-28. Laura Popovics led Swarthmore with a game-high 11 points in the win, while Karen Berk added 10 points and a game-best four steals. Lauren Kett paced the Garnet Tide in rebounds with six. Sophomore guard Regina Barrett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Mamaroneck) and senior guard Jeremy Cook (Pattenburg, NJ/North Hunterdon) shared team-high scoring honors for Washington as they each finished the game with nine points. Sophomore forward Lauren Duckworth (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) brought down a game-high seven rebounds for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen are back in action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Franklin & Marshall. |
