Swarthmore Pulls Away from WAC in 2nd Half
Barrett Leads Shorewomen with 12 Points in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Visiting Swarthmore College opened the second half with a 31-6 run to pull away from host Washington College en route to a 74-51 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Garnet Tide improved to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 2-7 and 1-4 with the loss.

Swarthmore took a 32-29 lead into halftime before going on the decisive run. Laura Popovics capped off the run with a lay-up with 8:59 to play in the second half to extend the Garnet Tide lead to 63-35. Swarthmore led by at least 22 points the rest of the way.

Swarthmore outrebounded Washington, 14-2, over the first 11 minutes of the second half. For the game, the Garnet Tide held a 51-24 advantage on the glass and pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.

Radiance Walters led Swarthmore with game-high totals of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Debra Farrelly added 11 points and a game-best five assists, while Laura Popovics tallied 12 points and and four steals. Karen Berk added 10 points and two blocked shots for the Garnet Tide.

Sophomore guard Regina Barrett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Mamaroneck) knocked down four three-pointers to score a team-high 12 points for Washington. Sophomore forward Lauren Duckworth (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) added 10 points, while freshman forward Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored a career-high nine points for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen will play in the Gettysburg Days Inn Classic this Friday and Saturday. Washington will face Widener in a 6:00 p.m. game on Friday and Albright in a 4:00 p.m. game on Saturday.
