Trio of Shorewomen Combine for 38 Points

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Visiting Salisbury University went on a key 18-5 run early in the second half and held off a late rally by host Washington College en route to a 76-66 non-conference women's basketball victory this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Sea Gulls scored the six of the final seven points of the first half to turn a 28-28 tie into a 34-29 lead at the intermission. Washington senior guard Jeremy Cook (Pattenburg, NJ/North Hunterdon) converted a lay-up 18 seconds into the second half to cut the lead to 31-28, but a lay-up by Kiera Watkins on the ensuing Salisbury possession opened the Sea Gulls' pivotal 18-5 spurt. Salisbury went on to lead by as many as 18 points on two occasions later in the half. Katie MacFarland knocked down a jumper with 4:50 to play to provide the second of those two leads at 70-52. The Shorewomen scored nine of the next 10 points and cut the lead to 71-61 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Regina Barrett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Mamaroneck) with 2:06 remaining, but the Sea Gulls quelled the rally by keeping Washington off the scoreboard for the next 90 seconds.
