F&M Defeats Shorewomen, 73-62
Pastorino, Duckworth & Barrett Combine for 43 Points

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Visiting Franklin & Marshall converted 8-of-10 free throws in the final 90 seconds of the game to seal a 73-62 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory over host Washington College this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. Lauren Dodrill posted game highs of 19 points, 20 rebounds, and four steals for the Diplomats (5-8, 4-4 Centennial), while freshman guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) led the Shorewomen (2-12, 1-7) with 15 points.

Washington took its only lead of the game on a lay-up by sophomore forward Lauren Duckworth (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) with 4:53 left in the first half, giving the Shorewomen a 19-18 lead. The Diplomats responded by scoring the next 11 points, surging ahead, 30-19, on a three-pointer by Kim Rawson with 1:38 remaining in the period. F&M took a 31-23 lead into halftime.

The Shorewomen stayed within striking distance in the second half and trailed by just six points, at 59-53, following a pair of made free throws by Pastorino with 3:51 to play. The Diplomats scored six of the next seven points, however, extending the lead to 65-54 on a lay-up by Christy Strunk with 2:01 remaining. Sophomore guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) converted a lay-up on the other end to trim the lead to 65-56 with 1:46 on the clock, but Dana Johns made six-of-eight free throws and Maura Lentz converted a pair of free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory for F&M.

Dodrill was 8-for-12 from the field in her 19-point performance and seven of her 20 rebounds were offensive. Johns added 16 points and a game-high six assists for the Diplomats, while Strunk tallied 13 points. Brittany Braxton came off the F&M bench to score 10 points.

Duckworth and sophomore guard Regina Barrett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Mamaroneck) scored 14 points each to join Pastorino in double figures in scoring for the Shorewomen. Freshman forward Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) led the Shorewomen in rebounding with seven boards.

The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
