19, 2004 WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY Host Briarcliffe College defeated visiting Washington College, 74-62, this afternoon in women's basketball action at Island Garden in West Hempstead, NY. The Seahawks (3-7) got a game-high 22 points from Toni Jones in the win, while freshman guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) scored a career-high 19 points for the Shorewomen (2-6). Jones dished out a game-high six assists, grabbed seven rebounds, swiped four steals, and blocked two shots to go along with her 22-point performance. Ritta Johnson added 12 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high four blocks for Briarcliffe, while Christine Long also finished with 12 points. Jenese Bennett tallied 11 points, five assists, and four steals. Rose-Marie Ashton collected a game-high 13 rebounds and blocked three shots for the Seahawks. Pastorino was seven-of-12 from the field and four-of-nine from beyond the three-point arc en route to her 19 points. Sophomore guard LaToya Turner (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored 16 points and posted team-highs of eight rebounds and five assists. Sophomore guard Regina Barrett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Mamaroneck) finished with 11 points and four assists and converted three of her six three-point field-goal attempts. Freshman forward Brenda Lucas (New London, PA/Avon Grove) added 10 points and six rebounds for Washington. Briarcliffe held a 37-33 lead at halftime and outrebounded the Shorewomen, 44-37, in the game. The Shorewomen will not play again until January 5th, when they host Swarthmore in a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game. |
