February 22, 2005 BRYN MAWR, PA Host Bryn Mawr College never trailed en route to a 47-44 Centennial Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Washington College in the season finale for both teams. The Owls finish the season 3-22 overall and 1-17 in conference play, while the Shorewomen finish at 5-20 and 3-15. Deb Charamella led Bryn Mawr with a game-high 20 points, while freshman guard Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) paced Washington with 12 points. The Owls jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the game, but the Shorewomen went on a 14-5 run over the final 5:09 of the first half to cut the lead to 25-20 at the break. Washington freshman forward Brenda Lucas (New London, PA/Avon Grove) pulled the Shorewomen to within one point for the first time in the game with two free throws with nine seconds remaining in the game. Deb Charamella made two free throws for Bryn Mawr with five seconds left and Pastorino missed a three-pointer with one second to go as the Owls held on for the win. Bryn Mawr's Amy Johnson was the only other player to reach double figures in scoring as she finished with 15 points. JoAnn Gage led the Owls with 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) collected a game-high 11 rebounds for the Shorewomen. |
