7, 2004 SWARTHMORE, PA The Washington College women's basketball team slipped to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in Centennial Conference play with a 54-45 loss at Swarthmore this evening. Swarthmore improved to 7-4 and 2-2 with the win. Washington took a 23-18 lead with 4:43 remaining in the first half before the Garnet Tide closed the period on a 15-5 run to take a 33-28 lead into the intermission. The Shorewomen managed to tie the game early in the second half, but Swarthmore went on a 5-0 run to take the lead for good at 40-35 with 10:50 remaining. Senior forward Kathryn Zajac (Bellmore, NY/St. Mary's) finished with 10 points, a team-high eight boards, and three steals for the Shorewomen. Senior forward Liz Smith (Sharpsburg, MD/Boonsboro) contributed a team-high 10 points and six boards, while senior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) tallied nine points and team-highs of three assists and four steals. Katie Robinson led Swarthmore with a game-high 17 points and seven boards, while Radiance Walters scored 11 points and chalked up game-highs of 11 boards, five steals, and two blocks. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference home game against Hood College. |
