5, 2004 LANGHORNE, PA Washington senior guard Karen Simos (North Potomac, MD/Thomas S. Wootton) scored her 1,000th career point as the visiting Shorewomen topped host Philadelphia Biblical, 72-60, this evening in non-conference women's basketball action in Langhorne, PA. Simos reached 1,000 career points on a three-pointer with 15:09 remaining in the second half. She joins Eboni Taylor, Allison Wentworth, Allyson Britton, senior guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge), and Katie Bierzonski as the sixth 1,000-point scorer in Washington College women's basketball history. The Shorewomen (5-14) never trailed in the contest and finished the first half on a 24-7 run to take a 40-22 lead into the intermission. The Crimson Eagles (7-11) closed to within nine points late in the second half, but could get no closer. Washington shot 51% from the field in the win, while Philadelphia Biblical shot 39%. Senior forward Liz Smith (Sharpsburg, MD/Boonsboro) scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Shorewomen. Smith was eight-of-nine from the field in the win. Simos tallied 13 points, while freshman guard Regina Barrett (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Mamaroneck) contributed 12 points and shot four-of-five from beyond the three-point line. Senior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) dished out six assists and hauled down seven rebounds to go along with eight points. Freshman forward Lauren Duckworth (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) blocked a game-high three shots and scored eight points. Rachel Martin was the only Crimson Eagle to reach double figures in scoring, finishing with 16 points and six rebounds. Erika Kulp added eight points, a team-high four assists, and a team-high seven rebounds. The Shorewomen are back in action Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford. |
