22, 2004 HAVERFORD, PA Senior forward Liz Smith (Sharpsburg, MD/Boonsboro) scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds as visiting Washington College topped host Haverford College, 74-52, in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game this evening in Haverford, PA.. The Shorewomen improved to 4-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play with the win, while the Fords slipped to 1-12 and 0-7. Washington, which won at Haverford for the first time in three years, led by as many as 20 points in the first half before taking a 37-21 lead into the intermission. The Fords cut the lead down to 12 in the second half, but could get no closer. Smith shot six-of-12 from the floor en route to her 15 points. Six of her 16 rebounds were on the offensive end. Washington freshman forward Lauren Duckworth (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) scored a career-high 14 points and matched her career best of 10 rebounds. Senior guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge) contributed 13 points, while senior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) scored 12 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Katie Crowley led Haverford with 16 points, while Claire Scribner added 10 points and a game-high four blocked shots. The Shorewomen outrebounded the Fords, 59-32, including a commanding 30-12 advantage in the first half. The Shorewomen are back in action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Muhlenberg. |
