13, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD Visiting Gettysburg College outscored host Washington College, 25-10, over the final 8:12 of the game en route to a 78-62 victory over the Shorewomen in a Centennial Conference game this evening at Cain Athletic Center. Gettysburg improves to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play with the win, while Washington slips to 3-8 and 1-5 with the loss. The first half ended with the score tied at 27-27 after Washington senior guard Karen Simos (North Potomac, MD/Thomas S. Wootton) drained a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Shorewomen built a pair of three-point leads early in the second half, but the Bullets came back to pull in front, 51-45, with 9:38 left. Washington cut the lead down to one, at 53-52, with 8:12 to go on a lay-up by senior forward Liz Smith (Sharpsburg, MD/Boonsboro). Gettysburg then went on their big run to pull away for the win. The Bullets held the Shorewomen to three-for-12 shooting during the final eight minutes. Jen Bengel led five Bullets in double figures with game-highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Emily Falk added 13 points, while Dana Bear and Elizabeth Ross finished with 12 points a piece. Jamie Marshall contributed 10 points. Smith led Washington with 16 points, while senior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) poured in 14 and Simos contributed 11. The Shorewomen are back in action Friday evening with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Dickinson. |
