Diplomats Defeat Shorewomen, 63-42
Smith Tallies 12 Points, 13 Boards

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Franklin & Marshall scored the final 15 points of the game en route to a 63-42 win over host Washington College in Centennial Conference women's basketball action this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. The Diplomats improved to 12-10 overall and 12-5 in conference play, while the Shorewomen slipped to 7-17 and 3-14.

The Diplomats, who led 34-22 at halftime, held a 48-42 lead with 5:40 left in the game before going on the game-ending run. F&M was four-of-six from the field and seven-of-seven from the charity stripe during the spurt.

Amy Abernathy led the way for F&M, finishing with game highs of 20 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocked shots. Dana Johns tallied 15 points, four steals, and four assists, while Courtney Tierney added 14 points and four assists.

Senior forward Liz Smith (Sharpsburg, MD/Boonsboro) led Washington with team highs of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) added nine points, four assists, and four steals, while senior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) also finished with nine points.

The Shorewomen close out the 2003-04 season Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Bryn Mawr.
