30, 2002 DAYTONA BEACH, FL The Washington College Shorewomen fell to William Paterson, 72-62, this afternoon at the Land of Magic Classic at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, FL. Junior guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge) became Washingtons all-time leader in made three-point field goals, tied WCs single-game three-pointer record, and scored a career-high 28 points in the game. Piringers fifth trey of the game tied WCs career three-point field-goal mark with 16:00 to play in the second half. The school record-setting 135th three-pointer of her career came with 9:54 remaining in the game, breaking the mark of 134 set by Lee Ann Lezzer from 1993-1997. Piringer finished with seven made treys in the contest, tying the school record for three-pointers in a single game, set by Lezzer in 1995. She has now converted 136 career three-pointers William Paterson (3-7) ended the first half on an 18-4 over the final 7:09 of the period to take a 44-22 lead into the intermission. The Shorewomen turned things around in the second half, and cut a 17-point lead with 3:16 on the clock down to eight with 25 seconds remaining on a three-pointer by junior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman), but the WC rally ran out of time as the Pioneers held on for the victory. Piringer was Washingtons lone player in double figures. Patronas dished out a game-high seven assists to go along with eight points. Junior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) added game-highs of 10 rebounds and three blocks. Paterson had five players in double figures, led by Jeanine Day, who finished with 15 points in the contest. Kat McPhail and Allison Mopsick each added 12 points. The Shorewomen return to action January 9th with a 7:00 p.m. game at Hood College. |
