Springfield Downs Shorewomen
Smith Records Double-Double

GRANTHAM, PA – The Washington College Shorewomen fell to 0-2 on the season with an 83-38 loss to Springfield College in the consolation game of the Wingate Inn Tip-Off this afternoon at Messiah College. Springfield, like Messiah, the Shorewomen's opponent last night, advanced to last season's NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Pride shot 43% in the game, while holding the Shorewomen to 22% shooting from the field. Springfield, which led 40-20 at the half, also made good on 21-of-28 free throw attempts, while WC converted only eight-of-17.

Sophomore forward Liz Smith (Sharpsburg, MD/Boonsboro) recorded a double-double for the Shorewomen and was the only WC player to reach double figures in scoring. She finished with a game-high 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Twelve players scored for Springfield, led by Carah Dawe, who poured in 14 points.

The Shorewomen are back in action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Wesley College.
