16, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD The Washington College Shorewomen finished the game with a 14-0 run to defeat Philadelphia Biblical, 57-43, this evening in non-conference action at Cain Athletic Center. Junior guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge) led the Shorewomen (3-9) with 17 points and made five three-pointers in the win. The Shorewomen built a 10-point lead by halftime, taking a 36-26 lead into the intermission. WC still led, 43-34 with 8:52 to play before the Crimson Eagles (2-7) went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 43-43 on a jumper by Sarah Kresge with 6:17 on the clock. Two possessions later, a lay-up by WC junior point guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) ignited the game-ending spurt for the Shorewomen, putting them up for good, 45-43 with 5:27 to play. During that final 6:17 stretch, the Shorewomen held the Crimson Eagles to 0-for-8 shooting from the floor and forced four PBU turnovers. Washington shot just 33% in the contest, but held Philadelphia Biblical to 20% shooting in the game and 15% shooting in the second half. Piringer canned four of her five total three-pointers in the first half en route to her game-high 17 points. Patronas finished with 14 points and five assists. Junior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds and swatted a game-high five shots to go along with her six points. Kresge was the lone player in double figures for the Crimson Eagles, finishing with 15 points. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday, when they host Centennial Conference East Division rival Ursinus at 1:00 p.m. |
