WC Falls Despite Piringer's Record Night
Junior Equals WC Single-Game Scoring Mark

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Despite a school record-tying 32-point night from junior guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge), the Washington College Shorewomen fell to Muhlenberg, 73-71, in Centennial Conference action this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Mules improved to 9-5 overall and remained unbeaten in Centennial play at 5-0, while the Shorewomen slipped to 4-10 and 1-4.

Washington held a 42-32 lead at the half, but Muhlenberg went on a 13-2 run to take its first lead at 45-44 with 16:09 to play when Lindsay Tis made one-of-two free throws. The next 14 minutes of play saw ten lead changes and five ties before junior guard Karen Simos (North Potomac, MD/Thomas S. Wooton) converted two free throws to give Washington a 71-68 lead with 1:25 remaining. The Mules' Amber Nelson converted a lay-up to cut the lead to 71-70 with 1:09 on the clock and Tis made a pair of free throws with 34 seconds to play to give Muhlenberg a 72-71 lead. Becky Richmond accounted for the final score when she made one-of-two free throws with 10 seconds remaining.

Piringer's 32 points came on 12-of-20 shooting from the field, including seven-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc. The WC record of 32 points in a game was first set by Eboni Taylor in a 1995 game against Franklin & Marshall. Piringer's seven three-pointers also tied a school record first set by Lee Ann Lezzer against Muhlenberg in 1995 and matched by Piringer earlier this season in a December 30th loss to William Paterson.

Junior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) added 13 points and a game-high seven assists for the Shorewomen, while Simos finished with 12 points. Junior forward Kathryn Zajac (Bellmore, NY/St. Mary's) collected a team-high 11 rebounds.

Richmond led Muhlenberg with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Tis added 17 points and Stephanie Coluccini came off the bench with 11 for the Mules.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Haverford.
