Patronas Ties Assist Record in Win
Junior is Two Rebounds Shy of Triple-Double

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Junior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) tied a school record for assists in a game and was two rebounds shy of a triple-double as the host Washington College Shorewomen topped Dickinson, 79-61, in Centennial Conference action this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. Junior guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge) scored a game-high 27 points for the Shorewomen (7-13, 3-7 Centennial Conference).

Washington held a 39-34 lead at the half and 58-50 with 10:46 to play in the second period before going on a 12-2 run to go up 70-52 on a jumper by junior forward Kathryn Zajac (Bellmore, NY/St. Mary's) with 5:51 remaining. Patronas recorded her school-record tying 11th assist of the game on that play. The Shorewomen led by at least 15 points the rest of the way.

Patronas finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five steals to go along with her 11 helpers in the contest. Piringer's 27 points came on nine-of-15 shooting, including five-for-eight shooting beyond the three-point arc. Junior guard Karen Simos (North Potomac, MD/Thomas S. Wooton) also finished in double figures with 15 points. Junior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) blocked five shots to go along with eight points and six boards.

The Red Devils (8-13, 4-6) were led by Julie Younes, who finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Megan Shelly added 15 points, while Christine Giordano tallied 11.

The Shorewomen shot 49% in the game, including 52% in the first half. Dickinson shot 37% and committed 20 turnovers. As a team, the Shorewomen recorded 19 assists and 13 turnovers.

Washington is back in action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Ursinus.
