Hartzell, Piringer Break Records in Win
Shorewomen Top Notre Dame (MD)

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Junior forward Meghan Hartzell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) became Washington College's career leader in blocked shots and junior guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge) broke the school single-season three-pointer record for the third straight year as the Shorewomen topped visiting Notre Dame (MD), 79-67, in non-conference action at Cain Athletic Center.

The Shorewomen (6-11) led, 40-38, at the break before outscoring the Gators (10-7), 39-29, in the second half. Piringer scored a game-high and canned six three-pointers in the game, giving her 63 on the season and breaking the record of 61 she set last year. Hartzell blocked six shots to give her 94 in her career, three more than Megan Miller's total from 1994-98. Hartzell also tallied 10 points in the contest.

Junior guard Karen Simos (North Potomac, MD/Thomas S. Wooton) added 21 points and five assists for WC, while junior guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) scored 13 points, dished out six assists, and grabbed eight boards. Junior forward Kathryn Zajac (Bellmore, NY/St. Mary's) collected a game-high 12 rebounds.

Amanda Poppleton paced Notre Dame with 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Kathleen Burley added 17 points.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday when they host Centennial Conference foe Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 p.m.
