WC Drops CC Game to No. 24 JHU
Simos Nets 14 Points in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Johns Hopkins used a 22-6 run at the end of the first half to pull away from host Washington College in an 81-56 Centennial Conference win this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Blue Jays, currently ranked No. 24 in the D3hoops.com poll, improved to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen slipped to 5-6 and 0-3.

Washington, down nine in the opening minutes of the game had rallied to cut the Hopkins lead to two at 20-18 with 6:41 to play in the first half. The Blue Jays then went on their pivotal run and led 42-24 after sophomore guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) converted a lay-up at the end of the period. The Shorewomen managed to get back within 13 five minutes into the second half, but that was as close as they would come the rest of the game.

Four Blue Jay players reached doubles figures in scoring in the win, led by sophomore wing Trista Snyder (Orrville, OH/Orrville), who tossed in a game-high 18 points. Myers and junior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) each scored 14 points, while freshman forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) supplied JHU with 11 points. Darling shot 7-for-10 from the field and collected a game-high nine rebounds. Junior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WC/Charleston Catholic) dished out a game-high seven assists, while Myers finished with six.

Sophomore guard Karen Simos (North Potomac, MD/Wooton) led Washington with 14 points and connected on four three-pointers. Sophomore guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge) added 12 points, while senior forward Allyson Britton (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth) scored 10 points and blocked three shots. Sophomore guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) paced the team with five assists.

Blue Jay freshman guard/forward Katie Kimball (Garden City, NY/Garden City) finished the game with a memorable shot. Kimball launched a low overhand shot from beyond three-quarters court at the buzzer that hit the back of the rim and went straight through the hoop.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Ursinus.
