Britton Scores 1,000th Career Point
WC Runs Past Haverford, 88-54

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College senior forward Allyson Britton (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth) scored her 1,000th career point in the Shorewomen's 88-54 Centennial Conference win over visiting Haverford this afternoon.

Britton entered the game needing 10 points to reach the career mark. After scoring eight points in the first half, she made a lay-up and was fouled during Washington's first possession. WC called a time-out after the lay-up to briefly honor Britton, who joins Eboni Taylor (1,478), Allison Wentworth (1,136), and Katie Bierzonski (1,065) as the fourth member of the Shorewomen's 1,000 point club in the program's nine-season history. When the game resumed, Britton completed her conventional three-point play by making the ensuing free throw.

Washington (8-7, 3-4 Centennial Conference) controlled most of the game, leading 40-21 at halftime and then shooting 56% from the field in the second half. The Shorewomen committed 26 turnovers in the contest, but Haverford (2-13, 0-7) committed 44.

Britton, who was a perfect seven-for-seven from the free throw line, scored 13 points in the game to boost her career total to 1,003. Washington freshman forward Liz Smith (Hagerstown, MD/Boonsboro) poured in a game-high 20 points, shot 8-for-10 from the field, and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Katie Piringer (Potomac, MD/Stone Ridge) added 15 points and connected on three of her six three-point field goal attempts. Sophomore guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) and freshman guard Jeremy Cook (Pattenburg, NJ/North Hunterdon) each dished out seven assists.

Senior forward Katisha Gopaul (Dorchester, MA/Brookline) led the Fords with 15 points. Senior guards Megan Ritzson (Verona, NJ/Oak Knoll School) and Alyssa Kennedy (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) added 10 points each.

The Shorewomen return to action Monday with a 7:00 p.m. game at King's College. King's is currently ranked fourth in the D3hoops.com national poll.
