26, 2001 WASHINGTON, DC -- The Washington College Shorewomen found themselves down by 21 points at halftime of tonight's non-conference game at Catholic University and could never recover en route to an 81-63 loss. The Cardinals (2-1) led the Shorewomen (2-2) 43-22 at the break after holding WC to 30% shooting in the first half. For the game, Catholic shot 41% while Washington shot 35%. The Cardinals took 29 free throws to Washington's 13 to help ensure the win. Three Cardinals scored in double figures. Claire Flatley scored 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Meg Hagarty tossed in 18 points, while Carol Schnepp added 15. Point guard Amy Tyluki did not attempt a single shot or free throw, but handed out a game-high eight assists while committing just one turnover. Sophomore guard Yianna Patronas (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) led WC with 15 points and five assists, while freshman forward Liz Smith (Hagerstown, MD/Boonsboro) contributed 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Senior forward Allyson Britton (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth) saw her first action of the season after missing the first three games while recovering from an injury. Britton, the team's top returning scorer, scored eight points in 15 minutes off the WC bench. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener - a 1:00 p.m. home skirmish with Gettysburg.
