Shorewomen improved to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference
with a 55-39 win at Bryn Mawr this evening. Bryn Mawr led early in the
game, but the Shorewomen opened a nine-point halftime advantage and
pulled away in the second half. The Mawrters (2-13, 0-8 Centennial) jumped
out to a 12-5 lead with 13:33 to play in the first half. Washington
then went on a 16-2 run over the next eight minutes and took a 30-21
lead into the lockerroom. Bryn Mawr committed 11 turnovers in the opening
period to the Shorewomens two. In the second half, the Shorewomen outscored the Mawrters, 25-18, in a period that saw both teams shoot poorly from the field. Washington connected on 11-of-37 shots in the half (30%), while Bryn Mawr was 6-for-29 (21%). Senior forward Allyson Britton (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth) was the only Shorewoman to reach double figures, finishing with ten points. Sophomore guard Karen Simos (North Potomac, MD/Thomas S. Wooton) dished out a game-high seven assists. Bryn Mawr's Lara Owen led all scorers
with 14 points, and also posted game-highs of 12 rebounds and four blocked
shots. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. game at Centennial Conference East Division leader Muhlenberg, ranked 10th in the latest D3hoops.com national poll.
