Shorewomen Sweep Frostburg State, Hollins
TOWSON, Md. -- The Washington College volleyball team improved to 11-5 with a pair of wins on the second day of the Goucher Invitational Tournament today in Towson, Md. The Shorewomen opened the day with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-12, win over Frostburg State before sweeping Hollins, 25-14, 25-12, 25-15.
Washington hit .284 as a team against Frostburg and got nine kills each from sophomore outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, Md./River Hill) and freshman right-side hitter Alexis Jordan (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge). Senior setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) added 23 assists and six kills, while freshman outside hitter Caitlin Cooney (Gaithersburg, Md./Covenant Life School) had six kills of her own. Sophomore middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) tallied five kills and three blocks, while freshman defensive specialist Audrey Utchen (San Ramon, Calif./Monte Vista) recorded 10 digs.
Aimee Petrides had six kills for Frostburg State (3-15), while Jamie Frank added a match-best 14 digs.
The Shorewomen hit even better against Hollins, finishing at .306. Lee pounded down 13 kills and recorded 15 digs, both of which were match highs. Jordan added eight kills, seven digs, and six assists, while Daunoras and Cooney had six kills each. White added 26 assists and seven digs, while Utchen and freshman outside hitter Rachel Baker (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) added 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
Hollins (2-16) got six kills from Jessie Deese and 11 digs from Haley Ortiz in the loss.
Washington, which won a pair of five set matches at the tournament yesterday, finished the Goucher Invitational with a 4-0 record in two days.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Swarthmore.
