Shorewomen Improve to 5-0
NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Washington College women's tennis team, ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region, improved to 5-0 with a 7-2 non-conference win at Christopher Newport this afternoon.
The Shorewomen won two of the three doubles m,atches as senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) rolled to an 8-1 win over Sarah Stafford and Marion Gloor at No. 1 and sophomore Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford) were 8-3 winners against Angela Stallman and Angie Menendez at No. 3. The Captains (4-2) got the win at No. 2 as Kim Morrissett and Jodi Noland beat junior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School), 8-2.
Wshington also won five of the six singles matches, taking the top five spots. Finnegan bested Stafford, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, Bercovici beat Morrissett, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2, McNicol topped Gllor, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3, Daller beat Noland, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4, and Cohen defeated Stallman, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5. Menendez accounted for the Captains' second point with a 6-3, 6-0, win against Stevens at No. 6.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at McDaniel.
